Here are some tips on how to make your home more energy efficient
  • Compare your current supplier or tariff to make sure you are getting the cheapest deal
  • Use heating controls to make sure you only heat your home when you are in!
  • Get a smart meter to help you control and understand your usage.
  • Insulate your home to reduce how much heat your property loses.
  • Turn off your lights and appliances when you are not using them.
  • Turn off standby functions on all your appliances.
  • Install low-energy light bulb sockets.
  • Turn your thermostat down by 1 degree.
  • Share your showers…. Saucy.

SMART METER ADVICE

No more meter readings
Smart meters are the new generation of energy meters. Suppliers are installing smart meters as part of a national government program to replace older ones, including prepayment meters. Your supplier will contact you to tell you when you can upgrade, or you can request one. All energy suppliers are required to install smart meters to every home in the UK. The Smart Energy GB website explains the government’s rollout plan. Your supplier is responsible for the fitting and cost of the upgrades.

It includes:
  • A new smart electricity and gas meter with an in-home display – monitoring how much energy you are using in cost
  • A communications hub - installed by the electricity meter. This sends and receives information over a secure network to your in-home display and to your supplier, so they can take remote readings and bill you accurately.
